The atmosphere was set by using  a fairy tale like beginning which is ” there was a “.It also has a little bit of metaphors in there because it says a factory manifactures sadness. It also has a fictional vibe to it because Rashid Khalifas storys are usually fake or at least fairy tail that we all will know. In addition it also has personification in it because in the story it says “the sadness crept in through their window.” Even though sadness can’t creep he uses this as personification. He also uses adjectives such as sad,golden etc to express how good or bad things are or even just to over exaggerate.

He prepares us by saying water genies give him his story water which give him stories to tell which refers to Iff the water genies.

Setting: “sad city”  “a city so ruinously  sad it had forgotten its name”.

Intertextuality= How the texts are linked and they reference each other. Sea of stories: lots of ingredients are taken from other stories. Referred to Arabian nights – aladdin and Sinbad.

Rashid and Haroun were travelling to the valley of k for Rashid to tell his ocean of stories to the citizens of k but all he can say is ark ark ark his mind was blank. When he went off stage. For me the most important part was when he could only sat “ark ark ark” because it basically made the end of his career.

When Sorya left Rashid, he felt really bad about it and then Haroun made it even worse by saying ” What’s the point of story’s that aren’t even true ” Which made Rashid ”  Put his face in his hands and weep “.  But soon for him to know this will strip him of his title as the ocean of notions as he’s left speechless. Due to this Haroun feels guilty and wants to help Rashid.
