The dad is really protective and cares about his son a lot and this thought from me is due to the fact that in the book it says “his hand rose and fell softly witg each precious breath” meaning that his dads hand was on his stomach but taking care of him.

The Dad is also paranoid because there is a scene where he goes out with his son and they were in a car but the Dad kept looking in the back mirrors to make sure that no one is following them thia is proven by the quote “A quarter mile down the road he stopped and looked back”

The dad was passinf though a city but it was dangerous but he was holding the son really close to him so that he could protect him and the quote is “he kept yhe boy close to his side.”
